Before anyone celebrates (sorry, panics), Grey’s Anatomy was confirmed for a 23rd season as early as March 30, 2026. It’s not over. It’s not ending. Put the candles away.
Warning: This story contains spoilers from the season 22 finale of Grey’s Anatomy.
Now. The finale.
True to Grey’s form, things kicked off with a major Seattle bridge collapsing. Teddy panicked after hearing a voicemail placing Owen on the bridge at the time of the collapse. He was found unconscious in his submerged car. Classic Grey’s. Your blood pressure is not safe here.

In a classic bait-and-switch though, it was actually Nick, not Owen, who ended up badly injured and requiring emergency surgery, performed by suspended Bailey at Meredith’s request.
And then, shaken by nearly losing him, Meredith proposed to Nick right there in his hospital bed, recreating their very first meeting when he was admitted to Grey Sloan.
This from a woman who has consistently said she’d never get married again after Derek. Bold.
Do Teddy and Owen Leave Together or?
The biggest story of course was Owen and Teddy. Showrunner Meg Marinis called their exit “a super painful decision”; and confirmed the finale ends with a heartfelt tribute to both characters, complete with a montage of their entire journey on the show. Both Kevin McKidd and Kim Raver officially depart after this season.
They got a happy ending. No heroic deaths, no ghosts, just a goodbye.

Grey’s Anatomy has Money Problems?
Marinis also acknowledged painful budget constraints the show is navigating heading into Season 23, with the exact episode count still being finalised. The show’s been on since 2005. It has crossed 450 episodes. It is genuinely undefeated and slightly chaotic, which honestly is exactly the energy.
Season 23 is coming. What it looks like without Owen and Teddy, we’ll see.
