Michael Jackson Biopic Streaming Release: Everything You Need to Know
If you somehow missed the biggest conversation in cinema this spring, here’s your catch-up: Michael, Antoine Fuqua’s biopic about Michael Jackson starring Jaafar Jackson, opened in US theatres on April 24 and has since earned $341.6 million in North America and $851.5 million worldwide, making it one of the biggest films of 2026.
Critics gave it 39% on Rotten Tomatoes. Audiences gave it 97%. And now it’s heading home.

When Can You Watch It?
The Michael Jackson biopic streaming release kicks off June 9, when the film arrives on Premium Digital and Premium Video on Demand platforms including:
- Amazon Prime Video
- Apple TV
- Fandango at Home
- Google TV, and
- YouTube.
You can rent or buy from that date. Physical media — DVD, Blu-ray, and 4K Ultra HD — follows on July 14, 2026.
A subscription streaming date on platforms like Netflix or Max has not been confirmed yet, so for now it is strictly rent or buy
What the Film Actually Covers
The biopic follows Michael Jackson from his early days with the Jackson 5 through to the peak of his Bad Tour in 1988, and stops there deliberately.
It does not touch the sexual abuse allegations that defined the later years of his life; after filmmakers discovered a pre-existing settlement agreement that barred the alleged victim from being dramatised, the entire third act was reworked
The Box Office Story
Michael ranks as the second-highest-grossing film of 2026 globally, trailing only The Super Mario Galaxy Movie’s $992.7 million, and contributed to May 2026 becoming the first post-COVID May to gross over $1 billion in North America.
By any metric, this is a phenomenon. The critics-versus-audience divide was one of the biggest gaps seen in years.
The Cast
Jaafar Jackson plays his uncle Michael Jackson in his film debut. Colman Domingo plays Joe Jackson, Nia Long plays Katherine Jackson, Miles Teller plays John Branca, Laura Harrier plays Suzanne de Passe, with Larenz Tate and Derek Luke rounding out the main cast. Kendrick Sampson plays Quincy Jones.

Is a Sequel Actually Coming?
A second film exploring Jackson’s career after 1979, which would cover Thriller, Bad, the Dangerous era, and the more complicated chapters of his life, remains in development, but there is no official production timeline or release date. Given Michael’s box office performance, nobody’s in a rush to say no to it.
Whether you watched it in IMAX or you’ve been waiting for the home release, June 9 is your date. Get the popcorn ready.
