Mark your calendars: July 10. That is the date Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, Archie and Lilibet are reportedly arriving in the UK, their first family trip in four years and Meghan and the kids’ first time back since the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022.
The stated reason is Invictus Games countdown activities. The real reason everybody is watching is everything else.

Why This Visit Is Such a Big Deal
A source close to Harry described it as a “real point of great sadness” that he has not been able to bring his wife and children back to reconnect with friends and family. Archie is six. Lilibet is four. Prince George is 13, Charlotte is 11, and Louis is eight.
These cousins are growing up as strangers to each other, and Harry reportedly wants this trip to start changing that. Royal experts say July 10 is essentially “a test run” to see whether a UK presence is sustainable again.

King Charles vs Prince William: Two Very Different Positions
This is where it gets interesting. Royal commentators describe Charles and William as approaching the situation from completely different angles.
Charles thinks like a father and grandfather and may be willing to reopen family conversations. William thinks like the future king and remains focused on protecting the institution.

William’s door is described as “bolted shut” and his position as “hardened” and seemingly permanent. He was not at Trooping the Color when Harry was notably absent, and experts say William has watched private family matters become global headlines for years and is not over it.
Meanwhile King Charles has reportedly extended an invitation for Harry and Meghan to stay at a royal residence during the visit. Which William is not happy about, according to multiple royal sources this week.
The Prince George Element
The detail that has genuinely moved people is the report that Prince William has been having “pretty emotional conversations” with 12-year-old son Prince George ahead of Harry and Meghan’s return.

George is old enough now to understand the situation, to have formed his own feelings about an uncle he barely knows, and to be asking questions that William has to somehow answer honestly without making things worse. That is not a position anyone envies.
What About the Security Situation?
This has been the practical sticking point for years. If Harry and his family stay at a royal residence, there would be no security provisions, which are decided by the Home Office.
Harry lost his publicly funded UK security after stepping back from royal duties and has been in a long legal battle over it ever since. The security question is unresolved going into this visit. It is a real issue and not just tabloid noise.

Royal commentators note that Harry reportedly regrets some of what he said about William in his memoir Spare and in the Netflix documentary, and that there are no plans for further projects that would discuss the family in similar ways.
Whether William accepts that without a direct apology is the question nobody can answer.
July 10 is eleven days away. We will be watching very closely.
